BUTTERWORTH: The allocation of seats among the four Barisan Nasional component parties in Penang will be maintained at status quo, Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said.
He said the seats would be based on the figure allocated to Umno, Gerakan, MCA and MIC in the last general election in 2004.
“The number of seats for each Barisan component party will remain at status quo despite the strategy formulated by opposition parties in the coming general election,” he said after the ground-breaking ceremony of SJK (C) Beng Teik’s new building in Bukit Tengah, here, yesterday.
Penang has 40 state and 13 parliamentary seats.
For the state, Umno will be vying for 15 seats, Gerakan (13), MCA (10) and MIC (two) while for Parliament, Umno will contest five seats and four each by Gerakan and MCA.
Also present at the event was Transport Minister and MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy.
The school has raised some RM2.1mil for its new building on a 0.8ha plot in Bukit Tengah.
The plot was acquired from a private company for RM1.3mil. The RM2.5mil school is expected to be ready this year. |
