KUALA LUMPUR: The Gerakan National Delegates Conference this weekend will stress on the significance of the Rukunegara and the Federal Constitution.
Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye said the 1,800 delegates would recite the Rukunegara at the opening of the meeting while a booklet on the Constitution would be given to every member.
The booklet, Basic Foundations of Our Nationhood, is easy to understand and is available in Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese, Tamil and English.
"We have taken for granted (about the foundation) as we have been successful in building the country so far. This is to remind people that the foundation is still relevant after so many years," he told a Press conference yesterday.
"We need to inform the society that such discussions needed to be carried out in a mature and non-emotional way or it could lead to misunderstandings," said Chia, who is the organising chairman of the conference.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will open the conference on Saturday. Also invited is the party adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik.
Acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon would, in his speech, focus on the importance of the foundation of the country, stressing on the Federal Constitution, Rukunegara, Vision 2020 and Malaysia Mission, said Chia.
Dr Koh would open the Youth and Women's wing conferences on Friday. |
